Sindh orders speeding up anti-polio drive

KARACHI: The government of Sindh has decided to speed up the polio immunization campaign in the province after attack on a team of polio vaccinators in Karachi's Qayyumabad locality yesterday. 

A team of polio vaccinators was attacked in Qayyumabad in Karachi on Wednesday in which three health workers were killed and scores of others were injured. 

Provincial Minister of Local Government Sharjeel Memon in has directed for speeding up the drive against polio virus and ordered immediate opening of the campaign at Taluka and Union Council level in Sindh, ARY News reported on Wednesday. 

The local government department using its sources should spread the anti-polio campaign at the grossroots level, he directed. 

"The cowards are attacking unarmed peope but the government will not knell down before terrorists," the minister said. 

The polio vaccination campaign has suffered setback in the province as the health workers body announced to quit the campaign after the militants attack on a team of health workers in Karachi.
