PESHAWAR: Senior Minister of Khyber PakhtunKhwa Siraj ul Haq has been elected as the new chief of Jamaat-e-Islamia for five years, ARY News reported.
Siraj ul Haq has replaced Syed Munawar Hassan after the voting under monitoring of five-member committee headed by Abdul Hafeez.
For the selection of party chief, 30,759 ballot papers were issued out of 31,301 office-bearers while 25,533 people voted, in which Sirajul Haq managed to secure majority of votes.
Syed Munawar Hassan and Liaqat Baloch were also running in the election for the new JI chief.
It is expected that Sirajul Haq would step down from government’s post after taking charge as JI Chief.
