LONDON: Shadab Khan took six wickets on the first day of Pakistan’s four-day warm-up fixture against Northamptonshire in England.

The 19-year-old leg-spinner, who has just one Test to his name – against West Indies in Barbados last year – ripped out numbers one, four, five, six, seven and nine to register figures of 6/77 off 19 overs as the host county’s middle-order was decimated.

They were eventually bowled out for 259 from 73.4 overs.

Shadab, who only made his first-class debut in 2016, was also involved in effecting a run out for the second wicket, after Northamptinshire won the toss and elected to bat.

Elsewhere there were more overs under the belt for Mohammads Amir (0/30 from 13) and Abbas (0/34 off 13), though both openers went wicketless. Left-armer Rahat Ali picked up 2/25 from his 10 overs and right-armer Faheem Ashraf went for 50 off his 13. Haris Sohail chipped in with the only other wicket with his left-arm spin.

Openers Azhar Ali and Imam-ul-Haq saw out the final overs of the day before bad light intervened and they will resume 6/0 on day two. While Sarfraz Ahmed would like to have seen more from his seamers, he will reason that they all had a reasonable workout.

Pakistan will play Ireland, in the latter’s first ever Test match, in Dublin from May 11.
