Speaking at a Muslim Unity conference, Maulana Tahir Ashrafi stressed that the only solution to the Muslim ummah’s problems was unity. He also said that Saudi Minister’s statement of not waging war on Iran was a positive step. He also said that meetings between the Saudi Foreign Minister and Pakistan’s civil, military leadership had helped clear misconceptions.

He also said that for the defence of the Two Holy Mosque, all Muslims were united regardless of them being Shia or Sunni. He said that Hejaz was a center of respect and reverence for all Muslims. He was also of the view that problems of the global Muslim community would be solved when foreign intervention in Muslim states would be stopped.

Yesterday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir had arrived in Islamabad to hold important meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Raheel Sharif. The meetings were focused on discussing Pakistan’s role as part of the 34 state coalition and also Pakistan’s role in the recent Saudi Arabia-Iran tensions.

Saudi Arabia and Iran are on a diplomatic row after the former state executed a prominent Shia cleric. Iran responded strongly to the execution and ever since the two states have been embroiled in a war of words.
