‘A cheap act for fame’: Priya Prakash Varrier’s first Bollywood project receives flak on social media
Priya Prakash Varrier, the girl who broke the internet last year with a wink, is finally making her Bollywood debut but her first project is not only facing legal trouble but also receiving major flak on social media.
Her first Bollywood film ‘Sridevi Bungalow’ is being criticised for alleged insensitive portrayal of late Indian superstar Sridevi.
The first teaser of the upcoming movie was released on Tuesday and it showed Varrier playing a popular actress who has secrets and in the last few seconds of the teaser, dies due to accidental drowning.
Also know as Hindi cinema’s first female superstar, Sridevi passed away last year in February in the same fashion.
As soon as the trailer was released on Youtube, reports in Indian media suggested that Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor slapped a legal notice on the film.
The movie’s director Prasanth Mambully accepted that he has received the notice and will fight the legal battle but this was not the end of the story.
Though the director claimed that the “Sridevi is a common name and it is just coincidence that the movie tells the tale of an actress named Sridevi”, social media users have been criticizing the attempt rather too harshly.
Some are terming it a “sleaze fest” while some are terming it an “insult to the memory” of the veteran actress.
“The teaser of sleaze fest masquerading as a movie #SrideviBungalow is a dirty & ugly attempt to tarnish the image of an Indian icon. The movie has to be banned! Nobody should be allowed to get away with such a cheap act for fame & mileage. #Sridevi,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Such a shameful and disgusting act it is by the makers of #SrideviBungalow to depict the legendary actress in such a disgraceful manner. Utter nonsense and rubbish it is. I want the Indian Film Fraternity to take strong action on it. The departed soul deserves respect,” another one wrote.
In this disgusting film u tried to show #Sridevi as a lonely person and pathetic but the fact that Sri hated to be alone and her family was always beside her and in another shot u tried to show her smoked cigar and this was the most thing she hated. Shame on u😡 #SrideviBungalow pic.twitter.com/nMFYFrM1JT
