MUMBAI: You may come across twenty nine-year-old Jamie Lever’s as just another artist until you come to know she is the daughter of renowned actor Johnny Lever.

Jamie began her career in August 2012 as a marketing executive at the London-based market research agency Visiongain. She has performed at The Comedy Store, Mumbai from 2012 as a stand-up comedian.

She’s never made it big in the Bollywood so far, but in stage-comedy she is a known figure.

Unlike other Bollywood actress who flaunt their good looks, Jamie has a candid observation to share. The charming lady when refrred as a pretty lady in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, here’s what she responded:

“Are you calling me good-looking? People don’t give me such compliments. I always hear ‘You are very funny’ or ‘I like the way you make weird faces’. No one says you are pretty,” laughs Jamie. Don’t blame us for gushing over a fine-looking comedian, blame comedy.

“In comedy, people expect you to joke about your weight if you are fat. You use your body as your main content. Which is fine. People get laughs for it, but I didn’t want to be in that category. I wanted people to hear what I had to say.”

There were reports that Jamie was set to turn host with ‘Sabse Bada Kalakar’, a reality show featuring children between the age of 4 and 12. Says Jamie, “The fact that the show will feature chhote kalakars , and I consider myself a chhota-mota kalakar , made me take it up. My co-host is Jay Bhanushali, who is a seasoned anchor. The comedy and masti will come from my end, while Jay will add his charm and spark. Dad is excited as I am the first person from the family to turn host. His advice was that I should mingle with the kids and enjoy myself.” About the show’s judges — Raveena Tandon, Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi — she says, “They are like family. The bond is already there because of the love and acceptance dad has received.”

On continuing her father’s legacy, she said: “He’s worked in the industry for so long. I feel it’s my responsibility to entertain his audience but also create my own niche.”
