Steyn's heroics bag a crucial win for SA against New Zealand

CHITTAGONG: Dale Steyn’s heroics helped South Africa to remain alive in World T20 with the 2-run win against New Zealand at  Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong on , Monday, ARY News reported.

South Africa batting first set the compatible target of 171 runs.  JP Duminy and Hashim Amla were main contributor for Proteas.

Amla played a sensible inning. He took 40 balls to score 41 hitting only 2 fours.

Duminy, on the other hand boosted the South African inning by scoring 86 off 43 balls with the strike rate of 200. Duminy’s inning featured 10 fours and 3 sixes.

The chase of New Zealand comprised of many twists and turns as they were off to flying start when opening pair Martin Guptill (22) and Kane Willaimson (52) laid the strong foundation with the stand of 57 runs.

Ross Taylor played an aggressive inning of 62 runs that came off in 37 balls. He stayed till the last ball of the game but remained unsuccessful to bring Kiwi’s home when they need 3 off last ball.

Dale Steyn, who took 4 wickets conceding only 17 runs in 4-over helped SA to maintain their record of not allowing opponents to get success in the chase of 170-plus against South Africa.

The pace spearhead led the defence of 29 off the last three overs and seven off the final one to keep South Africa in the hunt for a semi-final spot.
