Student, policeman killed in firing incidents in Karachi

KARACHI: Two people was killed and three others were injured in three separate incidents of firing across the city, ARY News reported on Friday.

The incidents took place in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar, New Karachi and Orangi Town area, and occurred in the space of one hour.

The deceased in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar firing incident was identified as Murtaza. Police said that two others named Shahid and Ahsan were injured in the incident.

They were friends and students, and were on motorcycle when the incident took place near Dar-ul-Sehat Hospital in Block 4 Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Another incident took in Pirabad area of Orangi Town where 30-year-old Rasheed was injured while reportedly resisting a mugging attempt.

The third incident took place in Sir Syed Colony of New Karachi where armed men fired at a policeman. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Rizwan and belonged to the Crime Branch of the Police.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and strongly condemned the killing and firing incidents. He called on the Inspector General Police to submit a report and investigate into the weapons used in the incidents.

He directed the IGP to  increase patrolling in the city and called for a crackdown against groups involved in such activities.
