Apparently, not all matches are made in heaven.

The 26 year-old boy was unable to find acceptance from the girl’s family, hence he slit her throat and surrendered to the police. The couple had originally met in secret as they had planned to commit suicide together, since the girl’s parents had not agreed to their marriage.

Prasad Sawant (26), a resident of Lalbaug was an event manager who fell in love with 24 year-old Ekta Talwadkar and both were in a relationship since the past 11 years. Both had been neighbours in Bhandup earlier, and longed to get married to each other. However, when Ekta’s parents did not approve of Prasad, the couple decided to commit suicide together.

On Sunday evening around 7:15 pm, the two decided to meet up near Deepak Jyoti society at Kalachowkie. Prasad slit Ekta’s throat with a knife and then turned himself over at the Kalachowkie police station. Police registered a case of murder against him.

“Prasad said they were planning to commit suicide, but he slit her throat with a sharp knife. Ekta was taken to KEM Hospital where she was declared dead,” said PI Suryakant Tarade from Kalachowkie police station. Some police sources claimed that it was a premeditated approach, since Prasad was carrying the knife with him for 15 days.

Ekta’s family was in shock and distress at the news of their daughter’s death. “Ekta’s father is in shock; he keeps saying he wishes he was dead as well,” Ekta’s uncle told mid-day. “I was opposed to their marriage, as I never liked him,” said her father, Ankush.

He was reportedly an alcoholic and was drunk at the time of the incident as well. Ekta, who worked at a travel company, was the sole breadwinner of her family.
