The water of the breach inundated large tract of agriculture land gushing over the houses and crops in the populated area and reached to the National Highway, local sources said.
The people of the area tried to fill the breach by themselves, however Pakistan Army soldiers arrived at the scene of the canal breach and gave a helping hand to the local people to plug the damaged portion of the canal side.
Sources said that the officials of the district administration and the irrigation department were working to fill the broken embankment with the help of local volunteers.
According to officials, the canal has been closed from its source at the Guddu Barrage and the repair work of the breach will be completed as the water flow goes down in the canal.
