Sultan Azlan Shah passes away at 86
KUALA LAMPUR: Head of Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah has passed away today at the age of 86, ARY News reported.
The funeral prayer of Sultan Azlan Mohiuddin Shah will be conducted at palace in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow morning and will laid to rest at the royal mausoleum after Asar (mid-afternoon) prayers.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, who is on the visit to China, is coming back to country to attend his funeral without completing the visit.
Sultan Azlan Mohiuddin Shah was known as ‘Father of Malaysian Hockey' for his colossal contribution to the sport for over 41 years,both as a player and an administrator.
The Malaysian governemnt has announced the public holiday for tommorow and seven days of mourning. Therefore, no entertainment or celebrations will be allowed in the Malaysia for until June 4.
The Malaysian flag will also fly at half mast until June 4, while the Perak flag will fly half mast for 100 days starting today.
Sultan Azlan Shah had played major role in laying foundation of Malaysian Hockey.
Keeping his contribution in view a tournament is organized with his name ‘ Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament ‘ every year.
