The 18th death anniversary of legendry Punjabi actor Sultan Rahi is being observed today.
Sultan Rahi was the pioneer action hero and considered uncrowned king of Punjabi films. With his strong performances and an equally strong personality he ruled the hearts of viewers.
Sultan Rahi was born in 1938 in Saharanpur India. His family migrated to Pakistan right after the partition. He started his film career in 1956 with the film Baaghi. At the start of his career, Sultan Rahi worked in various Urdu films as a supporting actor and then the year 1979 changed his life after his film Maula Jatt broke all the past records and set a trend in Punjabi films. This was a peak era for Punjabi films as they got more recognized than Urdu films in Pakistan.
With a voice like thunder and rock personality, Sultan Rahi has no match in Pakistani film industry. His dialogues are very famous among people till date.
Sultan Rahi worked in more than 750 Punjabi and Urdu films. His brilliant film career came to an unexpected end on 9th January 1996 after he was shot dead by armed persons in highway robbery on GT road near Gujranwala. His shinning legacy will remain an inspiration for artists in Pakistani film industry.
