OLD TRAFFORD: Sunderland reached the final of the Capital One Cup with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday, ARY News reported.
Sunderland secured their place in the final with a 2-1 victory on penalties, after United had forced the issue by winning the second leg 2-1 after extra-time to make the aggregate score 3-3. The victory made them qualified for the final of Capital One Cup after the year 1985.
United had taken the lead in the 37th minute.
Later a goal deep into extra-time from Phil Bardsley of Sunderland appeared to have put Sunderland into the final but the visitors were made to wait when Javier Hernandez's even later strike for United sent the match to spot kicks.
The game went to penalties in which Sunderland dominated the Manchester United by 2-1.
Sunderland will play Manchester City in the final.
