Suspect in Shahid Hamid murder case among ten arrested in raids

KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested a suspect involved in murder of Shahid Hamid, the managing director of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), from Kotri.  

In a raid in Kotri city of Jamshoro district, police arrested Mahboob alias Shahzad, who was wanted in the murder case of Shahid Hamid, then chief of KESC, the utility supplying electricity to the city.

KESC MD along with his driver and a guard were gunned down in the Defence Housing Authority on July 5, 1997.

Earlier, an anti-terrorism court had sentenced Saulat Ali Khan, better known as Saulat Mirza, to death in 1999 in the case who was executed in Balochistan’s Machh jail on May 12, 2015.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police have arrested a suspected target killer, said to be associated with a political party, during a raid in Karachi’s Qasba Colony.

CTD officials said suspect Imran alias Mama was wanted in a number of cases of target killings and attempted murders. The personnel of the CTD also recovered a large cache of arms, including Kalashnikov, repeater rifles, and large number of bullets, following the lead provided by the suspect, they added.

Meanwhile, police arrested three robbers who were mugging two citizens in Korangi Industrial Area, police sources said.  On seeing the police party, the challenged the law enforcement personnel. In subsequent exchange of fire, the accused received bullet injuries and were arrested in injured condition. A snatched motorcycle, mobile phone and cash were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police arrested a street criminal Sikandar and recovered two mobile phones and a TT Pistol from his possession. A street criminal was also arrested from Jauharabad and a snatched motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
