NAUKOT: A five-year child has been feared to be infected by the crippling polio virus as a WHO team of doctors will visit the area today to check the child, ARY News reported on Saturday.

A doctor of the Rural Health Centre Naukot in Thar after checking a child, Gulsher Khoso from Kaloi, found the symptoms of the crippling disease of polio.

A team of doctors and health experts from WHO will visit Naukot today to check the patient.

The team will take samples from the child and will conduct various tests to decide whether the child has been infected by the disease.

According to a report, in Pakistan, polio cases have decreased by over 99pc since 1988, from an estimated 350,000 cases then, to 54 in 2015, and 19 reported in previous year 2016.

Pakistan’s polio eradication programme has come under intense international scrutiny given the country’s position as the main driver for curtailing the global wild polio-virus spread in recent years.
