Qatar announces pullout from OPEC in 2019

DOHA: Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi on Monday announced his country will leave the OPEC next month in order for the Gulf state to focus on gas production. "Qatar has decided to withdraw its membership from OPEC effective January 2019," the minister said at a press conference in Doha. The Gulf state would still continue to produce oil but would concentrate on gas production, where it is the biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world, he said.
