Mayor is the highest rank in Municipal Government. It can be implemented for city or towns. There are various responsibilities but he/she is a little independent or not independent for doing anything. Rights of a Mayor depends on the system chosen by the local government.

The karachi local government consist of Karachi Metropolitan Cooperation which is further divided into multiple District Municipal Corporation (six) Central, East, West, South, Malir and Korangi. Each district is further divided intro Union Committees(UCs). Union committees are then headed by chairman or vice chairman whereas UC’s are again divided into four wards. The chairman and Vice chairman of UC’s  are elected by the voting and ward members are then selected by the UC chairman or vice chairman.

Since 1933 till 2016 the metropolitan city has got 29 Mayor from multiple political parties including MQM-P & JUI were the only two parties that has won majority times. Since 2016 last elections Waseem Akhtar of MQM-P was elected as the Mayor Karachi and to serve city of Lights. Mayor Waseem Akhtar is performing his duties since he got bailed on Nov 16 2016. Administrator Karachi is focused on serving Karachi and make its root strong again as karachi city is the business hub for Pakistan and also third largest  metropolitan city of the world.

Parks to be built at places of demolished shops: Wasim Akhtar

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar says the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation will build parks at places where illegally-built shops have been demolished during an anti-encroachment drive, ARY News reported.
