In a bid to bring down prices of sugar in the country, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet on Wednesday approved a reduction of withholding income tax on commercial import of white and raw sugar form 5.5 per cent to 0.25 per cent and removal of value-added sales tax on import of white sugar.

Hammad Azhar said that the decision will facilitate private sector for sugar import besides bringing improvements in the country's sugar reserves and availability in markets.
