In US, cigarette smoking rate declines to new low

Cigarette smoking is losing popularity in the United States, where health officials Thursday announced just 14 percent of the population now smokes, the lowest level ever recorded in the country. Some 34 million US adults smoke cigarettes, according to a 2017 survey by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The 14 percent cigarette-smoker rate is down from 15.5 percent in 2016.
