ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry’s lawyer on Monday once again pleaded with the Supreme Court to observe restraint and drop contempt charges against his client.

A bench of the apex court was hearing a contempt of court case against the PML-N leader for criticizing the judiciary.

His lawyer argued that the court can quash the contempt of court case against his client even at this juncture when it is recording evidence.

At this, Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked the counsel to forward his arguments as the minister had already been indicted on contempt charges.

He said the statement of the accused will be recorded under Section 342 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Talal Chaudhry, however, insisted that his alleged contemptuous remarks were not made during a speech, but press talk, which he said was edited and misinterpreted.

He told the judges that his statement was taken out of context.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till May 23.

At PML-N’s Jarianwala public meeting, the PML-N leader had bitterly criticized the judiciary, saying: “There was a time when the Kaabah was full of idols. Today, the judiciary is also full of PCO judges.”

He had asked the party chief to throw “those judges out because they will not do justice.”
