Tax on mobile phone cards can’t be deducted until court’s next orders: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday said the apex court’s order about suspension of tax collected on prepaid mobile cards will continue to hold until further orders.

Giving remarks during hearing of a case about increase in petroleum prices in Islamabad on Thursday, he said tax on mobile phone cards cannot be received until the court’s next orders.

The court had restrained Federal Board of Revenue and cellphone service providers from deducting withholding tax and other charges on mobile phone top-up cards till further orders.

Following an order by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, cellphone service providers stopped deducting taxes on the top-up of prepaid cards from June 15.
