KASUR: A teacher appointed for educating the children of kiln workers allegedly committed suicide after the Government of Punjab decided to shut down the school, he used to teach at – ARY News reports.
According to details, Tufail Akhter, a teacher at a school for the children of kiln workers, located in Waddana area near Kasur, committed suicide, as he could not stand his family being jobless.
The Government of Punjab had formed 138 schools in Kasur district in 2010, for educating scores of children of kiln workers, but authorities suddenly started shutting down these schools after 4 years. The decision was made at a time when a large number of children from poor families, started to attend schools regularly, for acquiring education, despite of tough conditions.
Tufail Akhter also fell victim to this decision and was fired from his job. It should also be noticed that the Punjab Government while forming these schools, had announced that the teachers hired for educating at these schools, will be appointed on permanent basis, once enough children start visiting the schools.
The family of the deceased teacher has appealed the Punjab Government to provide justice.
