KARACHI: Security alert has been declared at major airports of Pakistan including Karachi due to terrorist attack threat, ARY News reported on Friday. 

The Police and Rangers have stepped up patrolling along with the Airport Security Force (ASF) at Karachi airport. 

According to sources, screening of the passengers' baggage for domestic and international flights has been increased. Security men conducting search of all vehicles before allowing them into the parking areas. 

The number of sky marshalls has been incireased at airport buildings in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar. Moreover, shartshooters have been posted at airport buildings. 

According to ASF sources, the entry of all vehicles including VVIPs has been banned at the Lane one of Karachi airport. The ASF has also stopped issuance of the temporary entry passes. 

Punjab security has been heightened for important persons, government offices and installations. 

Intelligence agencies have informed about  possibile terror attacks on masse scale and advised the provinces to beef-up security of important persons and public offices.

The report suggested authorities to deploy security men in plain clothes on the routes to important installations and barriers on these ways.

The report also advised close monitoring of the border areas and religious seminaries in South Punjab.

The suspended negotiations with militants and military's surgical air strikes in  North Waziristan tribal region could spark terrorist attacks, the report suggests.
