KARACHI:The security and intelligence agencies claimed to have unearthed a terrorist sleeper cell involved in the killing of security personnel in the metropolis, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Sources said the law enforcement agencies have made a major breakthrough in the recent armed attack on security personnel that left three policemen and a boy dead as they have unearthed a terrorist sleeper cell involved in carrying out such audacious attacks, largely targeting the personnel of the law enforcement agencies.

Security officials believe that the group is involved in the armed attack that occurred yesterday which left three policemen and a boy dead.

A day before, unidentified armed riders opened fire on Awami Colony Police Station vehicle in Awami Colony area of Korangi, leaving three policemen and a 10-year old kid dead on the spot.

They said that the same group was also involved in the killing of two cops within jurisdiction of Bahadurabad police in May, this year. It had targeted police personnel who were breaking fast during the month of Ramazan at a roadside hotel, leaving four of them dead.

Meanwhile, the city police has claimed to have taken 33 suspects into custody in a search operation carried out in Baldia Town of the metropolis.

According to SP Baldia Asif Razzaq, police detained 33 people suspected of involvement in different crimes, of which six were arrested for possessing weapons and narcotics.

Whereas, Gulberg police arrested a street criminal within its jurisdiction and recovered a weapon from his possession.
