Thar suo motu: SHC declares Sindh govt report unsatisfactory

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday declared the provincial government report on Tharparkar calamity unsatisfactory and constituted a 3-member committee to probe the facts, ARY News reported.

The bench, headed by the SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar, was hearing the suo motu proceedings of Tharparkar calamity on Tuesday. Chief secretary, secretary food, secretary health and other officials submitted their report in the court. They declared three officials guilty of the Thar situation. The report also said 22,340 families could not be provided staples and other relief goods.

While declaring the Sindh government report unsatisfactory, the court ordered the provincial government to immediately provide relief goods among the Thar affectees. The chief justice expressed resentment on the report and said questions were raised on it.

“What if it is not an injustice with people of Sindh,” asked the chief justice while referring the report.

The court constituted a 3-member fact-finding committee and sought its report on April 8.
