Today marks the fifth death anniversary of the “The King of Pop”, Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson was one of the most loved and influential entertainers of all time. Even five years after his death, Jackson is still a pioneer when it comes to music.
He started his musical career by being a member of “Jackson 5”, a group comprising of his brothers. He had a hard childhood and spoke about it very frequently.
In the 80s, he revolutionized the art of music videos and dancing with his videos such as Billie Jean, Bad, Thriller etc. He introduced creative new ideas which influenced other stars as well.
Michael Jackson became a sensation and an innovator of pop music. His music dazzled the audience and made people dance to his tunes. Five of his albums “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Dangerous” and “HIStory,” are included in the top selling albums ever whereas “Thriller” became the largest selling album after it sold more than 70 million copies.
More than 100 million copies of singles from Thriller were sold worldwide, which is another record.
Jackson has sold nearly 750 million records worldwide in his career in which 13 were No.1. He was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He was recognized as the Most Successful Entertainer whereas “Thriller” was named as the Most Sold Album of All Time by the Guinness Book of World Records.
His concerts used to be sold out and thousands of people attended his shows wherever they were held in the world.
The King of Pop has won 13 Grammy Awards in his illustrious career and he was awarded the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award as well.
His autobiography “Moonwalk” was also a best seller in the New York Times.
Jackson was huge involved in charity work as well. He founded “Heal The World” Organization to help children around the world. He co-wrote the song “We Are the World” for the victims of famine in Africa during the early 80s. We Are the World sold more than 20 million copies and is one of the greatest charity songs to be released
MJ is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists. Whether it was music, charity work or creativity, Michael Jackson changed the definition of the word artist.
