KARACHI: A local court on Monday granted bail to three servants of former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon in a case pertaining to recovery of liquor from a hospital room where he was undergoing treatment.

The court ordered release of the suspects – Muhammad Jam, Shakar Din, and Muhammad Mushtaque – if they were not required in any other criminal case.

A day earlier, a South district magistrate sent all the three accused to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

The investigation officer (IO) of the case requested the court to remand them in police custody, but the magistrate turned down his plea.

On September 1, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar paid a surprise visit to Ziauddin Hospital where he found three bottles of liquor in the room of the incarcerated PPP leader.

Subsequently, Memon was shifted to Central Jail, Karachi and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him.
