LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday allowed a transgender to use the name of her guru in place of the father’s name on the official national identity card.

A transgender named Mian Asiyah had submitted an application before the court that Nadra has refused to renew her national identity card as it contained the name of her guru in place of her father. The applicant told the court that Nadra had objected saying it is illegal and violates their policy.

Mian Asiyah said that her previous identity card was also issued in the name her guru. However, Nadra authorities have changed the rules and policies which is causing immense trouble to her by now renewing the identity card.

The presiding judge Justice Abdul Aziz Shaikh remarked that there should be no policies which infringe on the basic rights of people. Nadra informed the court that the name of the Guru will be inserted in place of the father’s name of the transgender.

Nadra officials assured the court that the transgender will be issued a new identity card with the name of the guru in place of the father, after which the court disposed the petition.
