20 tribunals formed to hear appeals on nomination papers

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has formed 20 appellate tribunals to hear and decide appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers.    

According to an ECP notification, the tribunals comprised of high court judges. Eight tribunals have been constituted for Punjab, six for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four for Sindh, and two for Balochistan.

As per the election schedule, appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed by Friday.

The decision on appeals will be made by June 27, after which the final list of the candidates will be published.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be June 29. The date for allocation of electoral symbols and publication of the final list of contesting candidates is the 30th of this month.

The Returning Officers a day earlier concluded scrutiny of credentials of election candidates during which nomination papers of several political bigwigs were either rejected or accepted.
