KARACHI: Two persons have committed suicide within two days after Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) did not release salaries to its employees for three months, ARY News reported.

ARY News correspondent Anwar Khan said two persons, including a PSM employee and an employee’s spouse, have committed suicide within two days.

PSM has more than 9,000 employees and its Al Hadeed Welfare Trust has over 40 schools in the metropolis.

Since some years it has become a routine that the employees get salaries after three to four months which create great disorder in their daily lives.

A day earlier, a senior female teacher, Naila, committed suicide, while today husband of a PSM schoolteacher committed suicide. His body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

PSM Action Committee leader Akbar Jatoi asked the prime minister and the finance minister to take notice of the dismal incidents.

“We have become tired of staging protests. It has become a grievous situation now. Many parents are unable to continue their children’s schools as they have run out of money. Hence the salaries should be immediately released,” he said.

It has been three months since the PSM employees did not get their salary.
