Two dead, 12 burnt in oil tanker explosion near Nooriabad

KARACHI: Two people were killed and twelve others including policemen were burnt seriously when an oil tanker caught fire near Nooriabad, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The incident took place near a cement factory located on the Super Highway, where an explosion in an oil tanker also affected a nearby police vehicle, while another passing car also crashed in the rear of the police vehicle.

Rescue effort managed to diffuse the fire a long struggle, while the injured have been admitted in Civil Hospital Karachi.

SSP Malir said that oil tanker overturned on the main highway, while a police vehicle was on duty managing traffic when the explosion occurred.

However, it has been learned that local people were attempting to steal petrol from the oil tanker which suddenly caught fire. Another police source said that the incident was caused by suspicious reasons and probably to claim insurance.

SSP Jamshoro Tariq Waliyat said that oil tanker’s driver, who escaped from the site of the incident, has been arrested after more than ten hours.
