Two held over issuance of NIC to former Taliban supremo

KARACHI/QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) today apprehended two people for facilitating the issuance of national identity card (NIC) to former Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour, ARY News reported.

Mansour carried fake NIC under the name of Wali Muhammad, while he came under attack by a United States (US) drone in Noshki, near, Pakistan-Afghanistan border on May 21.


The FIA today arrested a man in Quetta named Aziz Ahmed, a Risaldar in the Levies force. In 2001, he had facilitated the issuance of NIC by verifying the application form of Wali Muhammad.

Another man Riffat Ali who has assisted in securing citizenship for the second wife and children of Wali Muhammad was also arrested from Karachi.

He happens to be an employee of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and was on the run since the drone attack in Noshki.
