Two major Nuclear Power Plants to start working in Karachi: Chairman PAEC

KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Dr Ansar Parvez said on Saturday that nuclear power plant is a sustainable and long-run system as Karachi Nuclear Power Plan (KANUPP) is being working in Karachi since 41 years but it didn’t create any threat to Karachi, ARY News reported. 

While addressing to a energy crisis seminar in Karachi, Chairman PAEC said that for two major Nuclear Power Plants (KANUPP-2 and KANUPP-3) will start working in Karachi within next seven months and it will be generating 340MW.              

Dr Ansar Pervez, China has agreed to finance 82 per cent of the total cost for two Nuclear Power Plants in Karachi and will be providing a loan of $6.5 billion for the same.            

He said that Chashma-1 will provide electricity at Rs.5 per unit while Chashma-2 will provide at Rs.8.

Dr Ansar said that a power plant takes 8 years to get complete and remained efficient for 60 years.
