Who will transport Amjad Sabri’s body? Two rescue services enter argument
The dispute erupted when the KKF officials tried to shift body of Sabri to their ambulance. But, Chhipa volunteers opposed it, saying they had been doing all arrangements of funeral of the legendary Sufi musician, reported our correspondent Nazir Shah.
As Chhipa ambulance was heading to Liaquatabad from Hassan Square, their vehicle was stopped thrice between the 3-kilometre track by members of another ambulance that virtually created a scene.
When the Chhipa ambulance reached residence of Sabri in Liaquatabad, KKF officials objected to them for carrying corpse in their ambulance.
A brawl was about to be erupted when police and Rangers quickly intervened to defuse the tension.
The body was then eventually handed over to Chhipa rescue officials for transportation to cemetery and other arrangements.
One of Pakistan’s best known Sufi musicians was shot dead by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle in Karachi on Wednesday afternoon, triggering an outpouring of grief over what police described as an “act of terror”.
Amjad Sabri, aged around 45, was travelling by car from his home in the city’s Liaquatabad area to a television studio, when a motorcycle pulled up alongside the vehicle and the attackers opened fire, killing him on the spot.
