KARACHI: The Ulema Action Committee (UAC) has called for a strike in the metropolis on January 24 against the killing of Mufti Usman Yar Khan and other religious scholars – ARY News reports.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Sami (JUIS) leaders demanded the Government to form a special committee to investigate the killing of Mufti Usman Yar Khan and arrest the culprits. They demanded to provide security to Ulema and compensation to the families of the deceased.
The UAC said that the killers of Ulema, students, lawyers, journalists, doctors and innocent citizens should be hanged and demanded to form a judicial commission to prevent extra-judicial killings and to recover missing persons.
The committee told that in the first phase for the approval of their demands, a strike is called on January 24 in Karachi, while a nationwide strike will be called in the second phase.
They also warned of demonstrations and sit-ins outside the CM House, Governor House and Police Headquarters to be held in the final phase of their protest drive against the killings of Ulema and religious scholars.
