MULTAN: A young couple committed suicide over failure to get hitched, ARY News reported on Thursday.
A letter was also found from the boy, confessing to commit suicide with a will.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Basti Maluk Police Station in Chanwana area of Multan. A 20-year-old Farhan and 20-year-old Maria consumed poison and their bodies were recovered from a nearby field.
Police found a letter from the boy, stating reasons for their suicide and intense intimacy for each other.
The letter stated that their parents were the biggest hurdle in marriage.
Farhan’s father said both the children were engaged in a relationship with their consent. “I had opposed my son’s marriage until he gets employment somewhere. This could be the reason of their disappointment that they ended their life,” he added.
Girl’s maternal uncle said it was beyond comprehension that what prompted the couple to commit suicide.
Police said the investigation was underway and actual cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem report.
