Urmila Matondkar joins ‘secular’ Congress and hardliners are furious
Popular Bollywood actress and nineties’ sensation Urmila Matondkar on Wednesday announced joining the Indian National Congress (INC) and a number of fellow celebrities congratulated her on joining politics.
But some ultra-nationalists, and hardliner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters are angry and have reacted by criticising her and even unfollowing her on Instagram.
The actress posted a photo of her with Congress President Rahul Gandhi and thanked him for welcoming her into a party that “believes in secular fabric of our society and democratic set up of our (Indian) nation”, a number of celebrities congratulated her for joining politics.
Kajol, Sangeeta Bijlani and other celebrities from film and fashion world congratulated the actress and wished her best on joining politics.
But then came BJP supporters and hardliners who not only abused the actress but announced that they are unfollowing her.
