KARACHI: A 21-year-old medical student Urooj went missing for more than one month from Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi, the metropolis of Pakistan.

Police officials told ARY News that Urooj, a third-year student at Hamdard University, was missing since March 8, whereas, a team headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Zone Amir Farooqui was formed to carry on the investigation into the matter.

Statements of her friends and the varsity administration were recovered, however, no progress was made in the investigation so far, police added.

The officials detailed that Urooj had arrived at her home on March 8 and later she left for beauty parlour at 4:00 pm on the day but she did not reach there. The case turns more suspicious as she left all of her belongings including mobile and other valuables at home, police said.

Superintendent Police (SP) Gulshan said that a kidnapping case was registered by her father at Shahrea Faisal police station.

Moreover, the police department has decided to dispatch a letter to higher authorities for acquiring recordings of her telephone calls.

Mysterious disappearance

Earlier in November last year, Punjab police had claimed to have recovered two girls who disappeared from a park in Karachi from Sahiwal city of Punjab province.

The two girls whose parents had registered a kidnapping case after their mysterious disappearance from a public park in Karachi on November 19, reportedly arrived in Sahiwal to meet their friend Malik Nadeem, who himself disappeared from his home upon their arrival.

The girls belonging to Sujawal district of Sindh province were handed over to police after their “Facebook friend” disappeared upon their arrival in the city.

As Malik Nadeem’s family didn’t welcome them, the area residents handed them over to police who has shifted them in a safe home.

Police say the duo, in their statements, have accepted that they left Karachi on their own free will to meet their friend in Sahiwal.

The law enforcement agency, however, took Malik Nadeem’s brother into custody for investigation.

It is pertinent to note here that soon after their disappearance from a Karachi park in November 19, Sindh police’s initial investigation had revealed that the two girls were in contact with someone before leaving the park.
