Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel had detained William Jones when a pistol and six to seven rounds of ammunition were found from his possession during checking at Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport. He was immediately taken into custody for probe.
Reports say that the US national was set to travel by Etihad flight EY-232 from Islamabad to Abu Dhabi and thence to the United States.
Police say a case has been registered against US national William Jones under section 13/20/65 of illegal arms in Airport police station.
Police sources told that they were under immense pressure to release the detained US national.
Sources informed that US Embassy had contacted officials concerned to seek release of Jones. The detained man is said to be an employee at US Embassy.
ASF officials had initially detained Jones for probe and later handed him over to police for interrogation.
It may be noted here that security is already beefed up across all major points including airports all over the country in view of security threat.
