In a statement issued from Washington, the spokesperson of the US Department of State stated the attack was an attempt to scare journalists belonging to ARY News. It was also said such attacks were inexcusable.
The Department of State spokesperson was also thankful of the fact that no loss of life was reported in the attack and neither did people get injured on a large scale.
On Wednesday evening, armed assailants attacked ARY News’ Islamabad bureau office, lobbing a hand grenade and firing several shots. Security guards present retaliated, forcing the assailants to flee, dropping pamphlets. The attack was claimed by banned outfit Daesh’s Afghanistan chapter.
According to the pamphlet, the attack was carried out ‘in reaction to the channel’s coverage of ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb’.
