MULTAN: A van carrying passengers caught fire at Head Muhammadwala flyover on the outskirts of Multan, burning six people to death and injuring over two dozen, ARY News reported.

Rescue sources reached the area and pulled the passengers from the burning vehicle. They confirmed that at least six people have died while 26 others suffered sever burn injuries after the van caught fire.

The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while many among the injured are stated to be in critical condition. All the victims belonged to the same family.

Initial reports suggests the van caught flames due to short circuiting of electric wires in the van. However, the actual reason behind the fire erupting in the van is yet to ascertained.

Rescue sources said the deceased were beyond recognition.

This is the second incident in less than ten days as the Punjab province continue to reel under the horrific oil tanker inferno that led to deaths of around 200 people.
