Veteran actor Dilip Kumar hospitalised due to chest infection

MUMBAI: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai for chest infection.

The 95-year-old actor’s family friend Faisal Farooqui took to social media to share the news on Dilip Kumar’s health and said that he is recuperating.

“Saab has been admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital as he was bit uneasy due to a chest infection. He’s recuperating. Requesting your duas and prayers,” read the tweet.

His wife Saira Banu told Indian news agency PTI: “We are here at Lilavati and we come here for a routine check-up regularly. He will be here for a few days, as long as the doctors want to do tests.

“All kinds of tests will be conducted. There is a team of doctors here, chest physician, neurologist. The tests are being conducted under Dr Nitin Gokhale. We need your wishes so we can go home soon,” she added.

The actor has been in and out of hospital for the last few years for the past few years. He was last admitted in hospital in August 2017 due to kidney issues.

In December 2016, he was brought in for a swelling in his right leg and in April last year, he was ill with pneumonia, but made a quick recovery in two days.

Dilip Kumar made his debut with Jwar Bhata in 1944, and has acted in over 50 films in his career spanning more than five decades.

The actor has given us iconic films like Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam and Naya Daur, Ganga Jamuna, Kranti, and Karma.

Last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998, the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

The epithet ‘Tragedy King’ was given to the actor because of his poignant and emotional films.
