LAHORE: In a commendable move to eradicate VIP culture, President Dr Arif Alvi reached Lahore Governor House on Friday with a security protocol of merely ‘five cars’, ARY News reported.

Immediately after landing at the provincial capital, President Alvi tweeted, “My continuous struggle to keep security but reduce protocol that inconveniences people. Am at Lahore airport and there are 32 cars to escort me waiting outside. Will wait until they are sent away before I move out.”

Refusing to step outside from the airport, the president waited until the protocol given to him was dispersed.

Later, the president left the airport premises to kick off his two-day visit of Lahore and departed to meet Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar at the Governor House with only five vehicles.

Mr. President has always been highly vocal in denouncing the norm of giving VIP protocols to the representatives of the nation.

Earlier, in September, the president was given a VIP protocol from the airport to his residence in Karachi despite his request to not be given a “huge protocol”.

“The long chain of official cars following me is despite the fact that I asked all officials present at the airport not to embarrass me with a huge protocol and that one or two cars in front and one or two cars behind may satisfy their security needs. Did not happen. We have to try harder,” Alvi had taken to Twitter then to justify the long line of vehicles around him.
