LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was declared returned candidate from NA-131, Lahore, after recounting of as many as 2,835 rejected votes.

Mr. Khan, who is poised to become prime minister, emerged as victor again by 602 votes.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, who lost election to the PTI chief, had approached the returning officer seeking recounting of votes.

Returning Officer Muhammad Akhtar Bhangoo, however, rejected his request for complete recount of ballots cast in the constituency, and allowed a recount of only rejected votes.

The PML-N leader and Imran’s representative Shoaib Siddiqui were present during the recount.

According to unofficial results, the PTI chief bagged 84, 313 votes, defeating the former railway minister with a narrow margin of 650 votes as the latter could secure 83,663 votes.
