Wave of deaths in Tharparkar continue, toll climbs to 125
The latest victim was five-month-old and admitted at a Taluka Hospital in Nangarparkar.
On Wednesday, a 18-month-old baby girl breathed her last at Chachro Taluka Hospital due to malnutrition. The authorities have told that at least 47 children were currently admitted at a Civil Hospital Mithi.
Three of the under-treatment children are in critical condition, who have now been shifted to Hyderabad for proper treatment.
The Thar desert, straddling the Indian border and one of Pakistan’s poorest areas, has seen an alarming number of children suffering pneumonia or diarrhoea due to a dangerous mix of drought, poverty and poor health infrastructure.
The deaths have prompted criticism for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which governs in the southern province of Sindh where part of the desert is located.
