We support democracy, not corruption, says Ashraf

He was speaking at a press conference here when he made the remarks. Ashraf said that PM Nawaz Sharif’s tone at recent public gatherings shows that things have gone out of his control.

He said that his party supported the Nawaz government during Islamabad sit-ins only to safeguard democracy, but we will not support his (PM Sharif) corruption this time.

He said that allegations against PM surfaced in the wake of Panama Papers disclosures and no countryman was behind them. He maintained that investigations into the leaks must be held either by a court or the Parliament

When asked about allegations against him involving the rental power project, he said that he had written a letter to the chief justice to probe it.

The PPP leader said that those who were advised Yousuf Raza Gilani to step down should now take the same advice for themselves.

Raja Pervez Ashraf further said the premier should clear himself of all charges even if the names of his family members cropped up in the Panama Papers.
