Weather likely to remain cold and dry in most parts of country

KARACHI: Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while partly cloudy in upper Punjab on Tuesday (today), according to the Pakistan Metrological Department.

The weather department said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country as a shallow westerly wave is likely to affect the northern areas of the country today.

However, it said, light rain with snowfall is expected in Malakand division, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan while foggy conditions are expected at a few places in the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning/night hours.

The metrological department said a similar weather pattern is likely to remain on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, the weather remained very cold and dry in most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills occurred at one or two places in Gilgit-Baltistan where the temperature plummeted blow 0°C.

The lowest temperature recorded in the country on Jan 7 was -15°C in Skardu, followed by -12°C in Astore and Kalam. Gupis also experienced the harsh weather with the mercury plummeting as low as -08°C while the temperature in Bagrote and Hunza was -07°C, Malamjabba, Parachinar, Dir, Quetta and Kalat -05°C, Muree and Rawalakot -04°C, Chitral, Gilgit, Kakul and Drosh -03°C, Lower Dir -02, Mirkhani, Dalbandin, Garhi duppata, Balakot and Risalpur -01°C.
