Weekly inflation goes up

The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) with base 2007-2008=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined has been computed by Pakistan Bureau Statics (PBS).

SPI for the week ended on July 24 for the lowest income group up to Rs. 8,000 registered increase of 0.19 percent as compared to the previous week. The points in the above mentioned group was recorded at 207.07 points against 206.68 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increased of 7.52 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs.8001-12,000, Rs.12,001-18,000, Rs.18001-35,000 and above Rs.35,000 increased by 0.17 percent, 0.17 percent, 0.16 percent and 0.13 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 4 items registered decrease, while that of 19 items increase with the remaining 30 items’ prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included tomatoes, bananas, pulse moong (washed) and pulse mash (washed).

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included eggs hen (farm), garlic, onions, potatoes, red chilly powder (loose), LPG cylinder (11kg), sugar, wheat flour (bag), wheat, beef with bone (average quality), pulse gram (washed), pulse masoor (washed), mutton, chicken farm (live), gur, rice basmati (broken), mustard oil, powdered milk and vegetable ghee (loose).

The items which registered no change in prices included rice (irri-6), bread, milk (fresh), curd, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (tin), salt powder, tea, cooked beef, cooked daal, tea prepared, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn printed, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, firewood whole, electricity bulb, energy saver (14 watt), washing soap, match box, petrol, super, Hi Speed Diesel, telephone local call charges and soap.
