ISLAMABAD: Emphasizing on the significance of Chinese investment in Pakistan, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said the western media is bent on publishing biased news about China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in pursuance of an agenda.
Speaking to media in Islamabad today, he said the CPEC was a gigantic economic project and the present government would ensure its success and also take steps to further expand it.
The minster also said that fifth generation war was being fought on the media. He said that state media could play an important role in promoting the positive image of the country. He stated that Pakistan and China enjoyed time tested friendship and Pakistan was proud of its relations with Beijing.
He said time was changing rapidly and use of technology was increasing with every passing day and Pakistan would have to keep pace with the world.
He promised to revive the old glory of the PTV and said in the past PTV was damaged by political interference, but the present government would restore its image.
Earlier in his statement, he announced that the PTV’s signal would soon be digitalized and expertise and funds would be provided by China.
CPEC – The ‘game changer’
In April 2015, China had announced mega development projects in Pakistan worth $46-billion under CPEC project, which focuses on road building and energy infrastructure to end chronic power shortages in Pakistan and to link China’s landlocked north-west with the deep-water port of Gwadar on the Arabian Sea.
The plan, which would eclipse U.S. spending in Pakistan over the last decade or so, is part of China’s aim to forge “Silk Road” land and sea ties to markets in the Middle East and Europe.
The two sides had also agreed to strengthen cooperation in civil nuclear energy, space and maritime technology, counter-terrorism and defense.
Meanwhile China will also expand industrial capacity cooperation in diverse sectors including chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering, agro, iron and steel. The two countries will also increase exploration and development of resources.
Under CPEC, a number of new economic zones will be created along the corridor.
