Widespread rainfall in Punjab relieve people from searing weather

LAHORE: Several cities of Punjab suffering from scorching heat for the last few days were relieved after rainfall changed the very hot and suffocating weather.

Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lodhran and other cities received rainfall breaking the spell of sizzling weather.

Faisalabad and adjoining areas received heavy rain with thunderstorm.

The rainy spell also blessed several other cities in the province including Kabirwala, Pirmahal, Jalalpur Bhattian, Jhang, Kasur, Tobatek Singh and Bahawalnagar.

Sahiwal, awalpindi, Cheecha Watni, Haroon Abad, Hafizabad, Gojra and Vehari also received light or heavy rainfall.

The temperature dropped to 30°C in Lahore, which was earlier braving over 40°C for over two weeks.

The Pakistan Meteorological department forecasts that Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Lahore, DG Khan, Zhob, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir will receive more rains during the current weather spell.

According to the met office moist currents are penetrating in central and upper parts of the country from Arabian sea. A westerly wave is also present over upper parts of the country.

Rain-thundershower with gusty winds/duststorm is expected at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha divisions, Islamabad and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday (today), while at isolated places in Sahiwal, Multan, D.G.Khan, Zhob, Bannu, D.I Khan divisions.Very hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Clouds are hovering in Karachi this morning and the humidity level in the city is 85 per cent.
